Our values define St Mary’s and underpin all we do as a University. To bring the values to life, we need a strong commitment from all staff. The resources below have been designed to support you to open a discussion with your team about how you will live our values through day to day interactions.

Why is this important?

Organisational Values have been shown to be important factors in staff satisfaction and customer satisfaction. Poor fit between individual and organisational values is related to lower organisational commitment, lower job satisfaction and higher intention to quit (Lucy Cennamo and Dianne Gardner, 2008) and employee burnout (Siegall and McDonald, 2004). Glassdoor’s Mission and Culture Survey 2019 also found that 73% applicants would not apply to a company unless its values aligned with their personal values.

Maintaining a strong commitment to our values helps St Mary’s to ensure the experience of staff and students is a positive one and one that is consistent with the values we hold.
