Online dating

Check out our important safety tips for online dating.

  • Speak to the person on the phone or via FaceTime before meeting for the first time.
  • Never send someone money. If someone you are speaking to asks you for your bank details or money, they are likely a scammer.
  • Report unwarranted behaviour. If someone is rude, aggressive, or abusive, report them to the customer care team using the report feature on the site or app.
  • If you decide to meet someone, meet in a public space that you know will have lots of people around where you can ask someone for help if needed.
  • If you plan on meeting someone, send a friend the person’s name and contact details and let them know where you are going, at what time and on what day agreeing to check in with your friend once there to let them know you are ok.
  • When meeting someone for the first time, travel via public transport or drive yourself there. Don’t let the person pick you up in their car.
  • Have a plan for how you are going to get home.
