Social media sites are for enjoying engagement and interaction with others, sharing stories and photographs and some personal information. Check out our social media safety tips.

• Check your settings to make sure you're happy with who can access your posts.
• Be mindful of what you share on social media. Once something's out there it can be difficult to retract comments that could be harmful to your reputation.
• Illegal and offensive material and comments can lead to you being reported to the authorities and could be detrimental to your future if you are prosecuted.
• Remember, employers often check social media sites before employing applicants.
• Sometimes social media accounts can be hacked and trolled or fake accounts using your information can be created. If this happens to you please report it straight away to the relevant authorities including the University as we can assist you in this instance.
