Dermot Kelly

About Research

Dermot has an MSc in International Business from Birkbeck College, University of London. He also holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Post-compulsory Education (PGCE) from Oxford Brooks University and was awarded MA Status in Management by Trinity College, University of Dublin.

Dermot teaches on the BA degree in Business Management, the BA degree in Tourism Management, and the MA in Charity Management. Prior to his senior lecturer appointment at St Mary’s, he was a lecturer and programme manager in the School of Hospitality and Tourism Studies at Westminster-Kingsway College, London.

Before entering academia, Dermot pursued a successful career in hospitality and event management working for major hospitality companies in the UK, USA, Germany and Ireland.

Research

Dermot's research interest concerns knowledge production within university business schools. His PhD research focuses on how knowledge is recontextualised and mediated between the management academy and the field of management practice.

Honours and awards:

  • St Henry Walpole Award for Teaching and Learning (December, 2009).The prize was awarded for Dermot's use of wiki software in developing innovative approaches to student assessment and feedback at St Mary's University.
