Bernie Borland graduated from Manchester University and has two postgraduate degrees from London University. He served inner-London Education for thirty-seven years, including eight years as a secondary head teacher and fifteen years as Principal of St Francis Xavier Sixth Form College in Clapham where leadership and management were judged outstanding at three consecutive inspections.
Bernie retired as principal in 2009 and is now a part-time senior lecturer at St Mary's teaching on the MA in Leading Innovation and Change. He is also an education consultant supporting the work of schools and sixth form colleges and has successfully undertaken interim management responsibilities in both areas.
Bernie is a member of the British Psychological Society and has worked as an OFSTED inspector. He was on a Commission for Black Staff in Further Education and is director of a training company specialising in 'hard to reach' learners.
In 2008 Bernie was awarded CBE for services to Education.
