Ruth joined St Mary’s in September 2005 as a senior lecturer in primary mathematics. Prior to that, she had worked for short spells at both Kingston and Brunel Universities in a similar role. Her special interests include the use of discussion and challenge in developing mathematical understanding and in the nurturing of student teacher subject knowledge.
Ruth was a teacher in various Surrey schools for twenty years before making the move into teacher education, having completed her first degree at the University of Exeter. Her interest in the teaching of mathematics was especially fuelled by a diploma in mathematics education she took after accepting the role of mathematics coordinator in 1994. For several years, she also worked with the Surrey numeracy team in the role of Leading Mathematics Teacher.
Ruth is currently enrolled on a Master's Degree in Mathematics Education at King’s College, London.
