Biography

Matthew joined St Mary’s in 2018 as a full-time lecturer after 25 years as a teacher and a visiting HEI lecturer. He works as a senior lecturer (Religious Education) on the PGCE programme. His teaching duties include the development of trainee teachers’ pedagogy and subject knowledge, visiting trainees on school placements. He also lectures on the master's in Education course in developing school teachers’ MA research projects, contributing to both the Pedagogy and Leading Innovation and Change programmes. 

Matthew recently completed a Farmington Fellowship (2018), based at the Farmington Institute, Harris Manchester College, Oxford University. His fellowship was titled: A missing link in teacher training: What support is needed for subject tutors of Religious Education in School-Centred Initial Teacher Training?

Matthew is also a member of the Religious Education Council, representing the views of the Catholic Education Service. He is a founder member and currently chair of the Association of Teachers of Catholic Religious Education (ATCRE). He is an experienced Diocesan inspector.

Matthew holds a Bachelor of Theology (Hons), PGCE (Secondary Religious Education), master's in Catholic School Leadership, NPQH (National Professional Qualification for Headship).
